Being Anti-Trump Does Not Make You Anti-Racist
White liberals and conservatives that voted for Biden to spite Trump need to understand that does not make them anti-racist.
Now that Biden is President of the US, I’ve seen White people proclaim that better times are ahead for America. That this country avoided the worst possible fate and that the days of good government are back. They celebrated and witnessed the first African and Asian American woman become Vice President and went back to a similar trope — one minority succeeding must mean all minorities will succeed soon. For many White Americans that “bravely” voted for Biden to send a message to the world that America was better than Trump, life is back to normal. And while we continue to see injustice among Black and Brown communities, what happens to the mission of being anti-racist? Are White Americans more interested in getting back to the status quo or are better days ahead for all of us?
Anti-racism involves the process of actively fighting against racism to create equity and equality within a society. Whereas plenty of White Americans proclaim to not be racist, many of them do not actively fight to dismantle it.
