Biden’s Latest Executive Orders on Racial Equity

The Administration’s latest executive orders take steps to promote racial equity and undo the harm of the Trump Administration.

President Biden signed executive orders on Tuesday as part of the Administration’s promise to focus on racial equity and justice. The latest orders were targeted towards Asian-American and Pacific Islanders, the private prison industry, and discrimination in the housing market. It is part of a larger mission from the Administration to dismantle systemic racism in the country.

Executive Order on Trump’s Housing Policies

Biden directed the Department of Housing and Urban Development to look into the regulatory actions of the previous Administration to see if they undermined fair housing rules or regulations. And to implement Fair Housing Act’s standards as needed. This is important because, under the Trump Administration, the Department wanted to repeal Obama-era housing regulations aimed at addressing racial bias. Implemented in 2015 by Obama, Trump argued that the rule was unnecessary and gave the government too much oversight over housing. Biden’s reversal of the previous Administration will ensure that communities receiving federal housing funds will look into housing discrimination or segregation…
