“Diet Racism” Is Back On Shelves

Now that Black History Month has ended, quietly intolerant Americans can go back to expressing their viewpoints without fear or guilt of knowing that what they think is actually racist. The people that confidently start off conversations with, “I’m not racist, but…” and then proceed to say something pretty offensive. For eleven months of the year, Black Americans are struck as others don’t hesitate to question their culture and existence. There’s now a brand for those who have these insensitive opinions: Diet Racism.

Diet Racism isn’t all that hard to make. It has 5 simple ingredients — microaggressions, ignorance, whataboutisms, performativity, and arrogance. You see someone that drinks Diet Racism isn’t afraid to confidently challenge the idea of white privilege. They will be the first to state it doesn’t exist, that they know comparable struggle to Black people too.
