How do you feel at the start of a new year?
I’m not sure how to feel about 2022.
When I was younger, I would routinely start to create my New Year’s resolutions in December. I always looked forward to January serving as a clean slate and a time to focus on things I wasn’t able to in the past year. That included getting my driver's license, buying a car, going to college, paying off credit card debt, etc… I would create the list knowing that the year ahead was going to be a good one. I wrote down what I wanted to accomplish anticipating that each year was going to be better than the last. The pandemic has changed all of that.
I didn’t create New Year’s resolutions for 2021 because I didn’t want my expectations to let me down, just as they did in 2020. I don’t know how to feel about the start of 2022 considering that 2021 was supposed to be so much better than 2020. New Year’s resolutions are supposed to usher in good energy and spirits and the pandemic continues to put a wrench in that.
I received my first covid-19 shot on January 14th, 2021, and felt for the first time since the pandemic started that we were on the right path. Trump left office six days later and it felt as though we were slowly starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It only got better from there as I became fully vaccinated and the people I surrounded myself…
