I’m Starting A Book Club in 2021
Reading more will open up a world of new perspectives on matters that really matter to me — race, LGBTQ rights, politics, and history.
Growing up there was always a book in my hands. My idea of fun was going to Barnes & Noble and finding the next series that would keep me preoccupied for a couple of months. From A Series of Unfortunate Events to Harry Potter, there was always something to read. By the time I entered college, I wasn’t able to dedicate as much time to reading as I had in high school. Once I started to work and enter the grind of 9 to 5, it seemed like it was almost impossible to find the time. Having worked from home for most of the year, I found time in my day to dedicate to reading and I’m going to prioritize it more in 2021 by creating a book club.
My friends and I have joked for some time over the idea of creating a book club. We all discussed how bad we were at dedicating time to reading and how a book club would hold us accountable. The biggest obstacle was figuring out what we wanted to read. No one wanted to take the time to look into books that we would all find interesting. It wasn’t until a virtual happy hour back in November that we finally decided to do it for 2021.
