My Coming Out Story and the Challenges I Still Face Today

On May 24, 2015, I put the following post on Facebook:

I’m Gay…

By the title of this journal entry you already know what I’m here to talk about. Yes, I am gay and have been since before I can even remember. Some people are probably wondering why it is I am deciding to write about this. Every person who’s gay has come out in his or her own way and this is my way of coming out to the people who I have yet to tell. Some people may think it insensitive of me to come out in this way but this is how I have decided to do it.

Since last summer I have written in an electronic journal to recount what it is I have done each week of my life. It is a way for me to look back on the failures, successes, good times, bad times, and everything in between to see how it is I have spent my time alive. I have always been intrigued and interested in journal writing because I do think it is important for all of us to, in some way, record what it is we are doing in our lives. Be it pictures, videos, or writing, each of us should be able to look back on what it is we have done. With this being said, I can remember writing in various forms of a journal growing up and this topic of sexuality continually being addressed. Questions like,

What does it mean to be sexual?

Is it normal to be into the same sex?

What happens if people find out you aren’t into the opposite sex?
