Yesterday, I was on the subway to meet some friends in the city when I overheard a conversation between two older Black men about the covid vaccine. The two men were hesitant about getting vaccinated stating that they didn’t trust the government nor the pharmaceutical companies that created the vaccines. To them, getting the vaccine meant they were going to be put under further government control by having a chip placed in their arm. Although the vaccines have been proven to be safe and effective by US health governmental agencies, Black Americans are still far less likely to get it than others.

Currently, 64% of Americans have received at least one dose of the covid vaccine. However, that statistic hides the fact that it skews heavily towards White and Asian Americans being vaccinated. In fact, as of June 7th, 61% of White Americans are vaccinated compared to 12% of Black Americans.
