This piece is very interesting, but I'm not quite sure I fully back the premise that Black people have given up on believing in themselves. It seems to me that Black people are more hip to the persistence and invasiveness of whiteness in all spaces. You can be a successful Black person, but you are reminded of that in your everyday interactions. White people make passive aggressive comments and gestures to remind you that they are on top. If anything, Black people have doubled down on their love for themselves and their community despite how hard it is to dismantle white supremacy in this country. Black people aren't afraid to embrace their hair, they are quick to call out being appropriated, and they demand for white people to be held accountable now. Black is more beautiful than it has ever been because Black people know they are more than a phrase now.
